PORTA NUOVA DISTRICT’S TRANSFORMATION
The tour winds through new architectures realized thanks to the requalification of the city for Expo 2015. This transformation has revolutionized the appearance of some areas of the city giving Milan a renewed skyline. One of these areas is Porta Nuova district which is between Porta Garibaldi station, Melchiorre Gioia and the Varesine industrial complex. This tour aims to explore some of the architectures of the new buildings and skyscrapers, such as the Unicredit Tower by César Pelli, the highest skyscraper in Italy, that stands out among the buildings in the newborn piazza Gae Aulenti. Another building is Torre Diamante (Diamond Tower) that rises up among the historical architectures in Piazza Repubblica and whose multifaceted shape reminds the one of a diamond. Nearby the Bosco Verticale clambers among buildings and grows towards the sky. This is a project by Stefano Boeri who wanted to create a green, self-sufficient and eco-sustainable structure.
